A century of crafting colours

“Jotun’s colour expertise is a beautiful dance between art and science.”
Jotun’s colour expertise is a global in-house team of forecasters, colour designers, colour specialists, colour chemists, each and every one specifically specialised in colours. Or as Khadra puts it: “Jotun’s colour expertise is a beautiful dance between art and science.”

The colour team works together globally, regionally, and locally, bringing colour expertise from every corner of the world into the making of colour cards and palettes. The team studies trend reports, goes to the fairs, looks at fashion, at the way people live, behave, what they eat. “It all starts with a concept,” explains Khadra, “with inspiration, with a vision. We look at shifts happening in the world, asking ourselves: What does the world need? We then start shaping a mood or a visual direction, a colour direction. Inspiration can come from anything in the world, materials, markets, clothes, textiles, foods, taking something intangible and turning it into colour.”
The inspiration behind our colours
Jotun’s colour team blends global insight, colour science, and creativity to create lasting, reliable colours for real homes.

Jotun’s colour card has become a trend centre, something people wait for, colours that are forecasted for the future but also include classic and timeless shades.
Jotun’s colour forecasting doesn’t just happen in a day. It’s an everyday focus - and trends are not the main drive.
Colour is never a coincidence
For more than 100 years, we have believed that every colour choice matters. Watch how innovation, craftsmanship, and uncompromising attention to detail come together to create colours that stand the test of time.

“Originality is more important,” emphasizes Jotun’s Global Colour Manager. “Based on our colour expertise and everyday focus on both art and science, we create our own stories. The entire colour process from A to Z is really well studied, making sure that the crafted colours are compatible with Jotun’s products all over the world, with recipes specifically formulated for the products. Beauty is not enough; you also need the chemistry in making colours that last. And eventually, Jotun’s colour expertise becomes colours on people’s walls.”
