R&D Network
Our Research and Development centre is located in Sandefjord Norway, and around 200 people are working in R&D on a daily basis. To ensure closeness to customers and markets, we also have several regional laboratories. This enables us to address global customer needs, but also meet local specifications or special requirements in markets where we are present.

Our Research and Development centre is located in Sandefjord Norway, and around 200 people are working in R&D on a daily basis. To ensure closeness to customers and markets, we also have several regional laboratories. This enables us to address global customer needs, but also meet local specifications or special requirements in markets where we are present.
In the R&D Centre in Norway we develop technology platforms and global formulations for all the four main product segments. The technologies will often be modified in the regional laboratories to satisfy local needs. The central R&D in Norway is also actively supporting and controlling the development work done in the regional labs.
A large group in the R&D centre works with the development of antifouling for ships. To keep our leading position in the marine market, we have to develop and keep the control of both the antifouling polymer and the final coating, Both very technology demanding., Other strategic important technologies developed in the Central lab are polymers for decorative paints and tinting colorants for Jotun Muliticolor systems.
To further support the product development both in Sandefjord and in the regions, the R&D center is housing several expert teams within the fields of:
- Pigment and colour technology
- Chemical analysis
- Biology
- HSE issues
- Product testing
