A country facing multiple challenges

Ethiopia is Africa’s second most populous country, with a population of 139 million. In recent years, the country has faced several armed conflicts, while droughts and floods have continued to affect communities in several regions. The resulting damage has affected vital infrastructure and contributed to disease outbreaks.

Behind these challenges are people and families in need of help and care. Through this donation, Jotun is supporting the humanitarian work of the Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in affected areas of Ethiopia.

Red Cross efforts across Ethiopia

The Norwegian Red Cross has partnered with the Ethiopian Red Cross since 2023. The Ethiopian Red Cross Society has more than 42 000 volunteers and a network of local branches across the country. Together with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, the ICRC supports people directly affected by conflict. In the first half of 2026 alone, more than 46 300 people received support through ICRC-backed first aid services delivered by Ethiopian Red Cross volunteers.

Care in times of crisis

Since 2011, Jotun has partnered with the Red Cross and Red Crescent to support humanitarian efforts during times of crisis, particularly in countries where Jotun operates. Contributing to the communities where the company is present is part of Jotun’s Corporate Responsibility strategy and reflects the company’s value of Care.
