LNG/LPG Storage

LNG and LPG storage have a few basic needs regardless of material and shape of the tank. Very often the tanks are spherical or bullet shape and can be insulated at very low temperatures or may be stored at lower pressures underground. The interiors should not be forgotten. In general the gas should be dry and non-corrosive, but in periods out of service, temporary protection should be given.

Steel internals, occasionally the gas to be stored can be moist and/or sour. This may well be ok on stainless steel tanks but on carbon steel the steel needs protection. Products such as Novolac epoxies are necessary to protect, care should be taken to assess the risk on the coating system at de-pressurisation.
 
Stainless steel will often be chosen if tough conditions on the interior prevail. However stainless steel will suffer from chloride attack externally, particularly if coastal, in which case a coating suitable for the given surface treatment should be used. Contact Jotun for the best advice.
