Where cryogenic liquids are accidentally released, critical steel structures may be subject to low temperature brittle fracturing.
Examples of high risk areas:

• LNG and FLNG carrier decks
• LNG carrier structural steelwork
• LNG loading jetties and structures
• LNG pipe support structures

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is usually stored and transported in liquid form at a temperature of approximately -162°C.

When combined, Jotachar and Jotatherm provide a fully tested duplex system according to the most rigorous industry standards: 

• Tested and passed to ISO 20088 for cryogenic spill protection
• Tested and passed to ANSI/UL 1709 Rapid Rise Fire Test following cryogenic immersion
• Tested and passed to ISO 22899 for jet fire protection 

For cryogenic spill resistance applications Jotatherm CSP1 Scrim must be installed as detailed in the Jotatherm TB550 Application Guide.

Substrate temperature reduction
Jotatherm TB550 is suitable for use at continuous operating temperatures of -40°C to 150°C.

Passive fire protection
Jotatherm TB550 can be used in combination with Jotachar epoxy passive fire protection coatings to reduce substrate temperature to less than 80°C.

Flare radiation protection
Jotatherm TB550 protects Jotachar epoxy passive fire protection coatings from the effects of radiated heat from nearby flare stacks in oil and gas installations.

Personnel protection
Jotatherm TB550 protects against injury from process pipework, vessels or other equipment operating at temperatures above or below acceptable limits.

Process insulation and corrosion protection
Jotatherm TB550 can be used as a highly durable insulation solution combined with long term corrosion protection.

Jotatherm TB550 is engineered from the same innovative technology as the Jotachar range of mesh free epoxy passive fire protection coatings.

It provides durable stand-alone- or fully compatible duplex systems (i.e. Jotatherm TB550/Jotachar or Jotachar/Jotatherm TB550).
