Third party certifications
The demand for third party certification of paint inspectors, coating applicators and abrasive blast cleaners is increasing - particularly within the marine industry due to IMO rules for ballast tank coatings, but also within offshore-, construction-, petrochemical- and civil industries.
Jotun is one of only a few authorised training bodies conducting training courses leading to certification by FROSIO in accordance with NS 476.
Total duration is two weeks, culminating in a theoretical and practical examination by a representative from FROSIO. The course and the examination is demanding, but the reward is a certificate that is internationally recognised both in the marine and the protective coatings communities. It is recommended - but not a demand - that participants have prior knowledge of coatings and practical experience as inspectors.

Jotun is approved to conduct the coating applicator training programme Trainthepainter. This training can only be executed by experienced and qualified trainers who successfully have completed the Trainthetrainer course.
The programme is developed by experts who have researched on protective coatings within the global marine-, offshore-, construction-, petrochemical- and civil industries. It comprises a comprehensive package of training modules that ensure professionalism, correct and important use of PPE (personal protection equipment) and an insight into methods of surface treatment and application of protective coatings. Trainthepainter has been independently assessed against the contents of the NACE/SSPC standard "Industrial Coating and Lining Application Specialist Qualification Certification" - SSPC ASC-1/NACE 13 - and found to meet the requirements of that standard.
See demo of the training course.
Trainthepainter is- Fully endorsed by SSPC - The Coating Society
- Approved by Lloyd's Register
- Accredited by BRE, CSCS, RoSPA
Students who successfully complete the Trainthepainter programme will be issued an ID card in gold, silver or bronze stating name, registration number, expiry date and photo.
