NORSOK M-501
Since the NORSOK Standard M-501 was introduced in 1994 it has gained acceptance as a valid means of documentation for coating systems used on offshore structures.

The success of NORSOK M-501 is such that it has now become universally recognised as providing confidence in those adverse conditions where product reliability is essential. This applies to projects in on-shore industries as well as in the aggressive conditions offshore for which it was originally developed.

The NORSOK Standard describes guidelines for choosing systems suitable for new structures. It covers requirements of pre-treatment, the application of the coating or metallising and application of the passive fire protection. All the systems recommended have been subjected to rigorous laboratory tests in addition to long term practical experience. The aim is to provide coating systems that:

  • Give maximum protection with minimal and easy maintenance requirements.
  • Create low risk factors for health and the environment.
Jotun has a number of systems that have been tested and pre-qualified, including coatings that have shown excellent results over the last 25 years.
