While painting the ceiling, it is an advantage if the room temperature is not too high.
High temperature can result in the paint drying too quickly, causing the half dry paint to tear. The end-result would be a blotchy finish.
Start by painting the shortest side of the ceiling or preferably from the end that receives the most light. This way, you can easily see if the whole ceiling is painted.
Unpainted spots (holidays) will show up as dull spots in the glossy paint. And remember, even matt paints seem glossy before they dry.
Paint in the same direction of light
Start by painting where the light is best. Begin by painting the ceiling, moulding on the “light wall” with a paintbrush. The ‘light wall’ or the wall that receives the most light usually needs the same treatment as the ceiling.
Spot “holidays” easier
Unpainted spots shows up easier against the direction of light.
Roll on paint in smaller areas
It’s advisable to roll on the paint in small areas of about 2 meters. Painting on large surface areas will involve a delay in returning to the next zone, by when the paint would have started to dry. Using the roller on such surfaces would risk tearing of the half dried paint, giving rise to a blotched appearance.
